1. Description

Bisphenol A glycerolate dimethacrylate (often abbreviated as Bis-GMA or BisGMA) is a difunctional methacrylate monomer. It is a viscous, clear to pale yellow liquid and is one of the most significant monomers in modern polymer chemistry, particularly in dentistry.

Its molecule consists of a central bisphenol A group, which provides rigidity and strength, linked to two methacrylate functional groups via glycerol ethers chains. The methacrylate groups are highly reactive and allow the molecule to form cross-linked polymers. The glycerol linkage increases the molecular weight and viscosity compared to simpler methacrylates like methyl methacrylate (MMA).
